UNDP and ICCO Renew Partnership While Weather Kids Campaign Wins Another Award
London, 4th April 2025 – The International Communications Consultancy Organisation (ICCO) is pleased to announce the renewal of its strategic partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for a further two years, following a highly successful collaboration launched in late 2023.
The renewed agreement reinforces a shared commitment to addressing the climate crisis through strategic communications. Over the past year, ICCO and UNDP have demonstrated the power of PR to drive public awareness, influence behaviour, and mobilise global engagement — made possible through ICCO’s international network of communications experts.
Boaz Paldi, Chief Creative Officer, UNDP, said:
“ICCO has been an invaluable partner in helping UNDP elevate its latest global campaign. Thanks to ICCO and the unwavering support of its members, we have been able to amplify our messages and mobilise action across the world. This collaboration underscores the power of strategic communication and the importance of collective action to drive meaningful impact. We look forward to continuing this impactful work together with the renewal of our partnership.”
A Collaboration That Delivers
Since signing the original Memorandum of Understanding in November 2023, ICCO and UNDP have worked together through the Climate Communications Taskforce (CCT), currently co-chaired by Boaz Paldi and Emily Porro. The taskforce brings together top communications experts from more than 4 continents to deliver high-impact, locally tailored, earned first campaigns.
The partnership’s first campaign, the Weather Kids, saw children take over real TV weather forecasts to deliver future climate warnings — a powerful and accessible message about the consequences of inaction. Delivered entirely through earned media and without a paid budget, the campaign has become a multi-award-winning example of global PR collaboration at its best.
Andras Sztaniszlav, Interim CEO of ICCO, said:
“Collaboration with UNDP is a crucial part of ICCO's advocacy work, where we aim to showcase the importance and impact of the PR industry. As part of the partnership, we not only supported the Weather Kids campaign through earned media outreach in nearly 80 countries but also provided strategic guidance on stakeholder and risk management, messaging, and the use of analytics — with the support of our strategic partner, AMEC. With all these awards now recognising the campaign, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the real impact of PR used for a good cause.”
Earlier this week, Weather Kids was honoured with a SABRE EMEA Award in the Global Programme category. Organised by PRovoke Media, the SABRE Awards recognise campaigns that demonstrate the highest levels of strategic planning, creativity, and measurable impact. Winning a SABRE places a campaign among the most effective and well-executed in the world, judged by senior leaders from across the global PR industry.
In addition to this latest win, Weather Kids has also received:
- Not-for-Profit/Charity – 2024 ICCO Global Awards
- Best ESG Campaign – 2024 MEPRA Awards
- Three Golds – 2024 Anthem Awards
- Two Golds – 2024 AMEC Effectiveness Awards
- Silver – 2024 ESG Awards
- Bronze – ACT in Cannes Awards
- Honourable Mention – UN SDG Action Awards
- Shortlisted – PR Week Awards & SDG Awards at Cannes
Looking Ahead
In 2025, ICCO and UNDP will build on this momentum with a new series of global activations. The first initiative of the renewed partnership will be the NextGen PR World Cup, in which UNDP will provide a creative brief challenging young professionals to develop communications ideas that tackle the climate crisis.
