Ishtar Schneider @ishtar413, FPRIA, Global People, Inclusion & Diversity Comms Lead at @marsglobal, offers a compelling perspective on the state of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) within the Public Relations industry, as outlined in the ICCO #WorldPRreport 2023-2024 🌍📊.

Three years after the global attention sparked by George Floyd's tragic killing, the report delves into the progress and challenges in the industry's commitment to #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion. Despite initial momentum, global economic challenges appear to have led some businesses to deprioritise D&I efforts, particularly in gender equity and ethnically diverse leadership.

Regionally, the UK scored the lowest (3.7) in perceiving #PR's diversity reflecting ethnic demographics. The Middle East (7.0) and Asia-Pacific (6.6) scored highest, prompting reflection on what these regions are doing differently. I. Schneider emphasises the importance of considering regional and local contexts alongside results.

Examining policies, the UK, North America, and Latin America scored highest (74-71%) in having existing diversity and inclusion policies. Similarly, these regions led in having dedicated personnel trained in I&D issues. However, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific scored lower in both aspects.

Ishtar underscores that having policies alone is insufficient, highlighting the need for ongoing measurement, reporting, and governance to enact meaningful change. Transparency and tangible action are crucial, aligning with employee expectations for progress in diversity.
